Liberty Elementary collects Books for the Health Department

Liberty School was contacted by the Regional Office of Education to do a service project. The United Way initiative is called Ready. Set. Grow! One of our projects under that is giving books to parents of little ones at Adams County Health Department. If families visit they can select a gently used book off a shelf in the waiting room for their child. The health department has given away over 10,000 books so far. They are in need of more books for children.
After hearing this information, Mrs. Obert spoke to several 6th grade students about leading the book collection. A group of young ladies accepted the opportunity and wanted to lead the charge. The 6th grade girls then informed the elementary students at morning meeting about the collection as well as sending home a flier. They planned the collection by creating a contest for the elementary grades to donate books. The class with the highest number of books donated earned popsicles and an extra recess.
The young ladies came in and announced each week what the book totals were in each room were. They were in hopes that this would continue to challenge kids to donate more books and it worked!!! The elementary school collected 568 books for the Ready. Set. Grow Initiative!!!
Great Job Liberty!!!
A big Thank You goes out to our 6th grade leaders for leading this project and organizing the books for pickup. You did an amazing job!
